Scalia: ‘If The Government Can Do This, What Else Can It Not Do?’

So, the Supreme Court has heard oral arguments on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), commonly called Obamacare. At issue is the Constitutionality of the “individual mandate.” The legal complexity of this thing is astounding. But from my (simplistic) view point, the Government coercing a private citizen to purchase a product (insurance) from a private … Read more »

Choose the Form of the Destructor

Anybody raised in the 80’s surely must remember this dialog from Ghostbusters:

Gozer: Sub-creatures! Gozer the Gozerian, Gozer the Destructor, Volguus Zildrohar, the Traveller has come! Choose and perish!

Ray Stantz: What do you mean, choose? We don’t understand!

Gozer: Choose! Choose the form of the Destructor!

Peter Venkman: Oh, I get it. Real cute! [to the others] Whatever we think of– if we think of J. Edgar Hoover, J. Edgar Hoover will appear and destroy us, okay? So empty your heads, don’t think of anything. We’ve only got one shot at this.

Gozer: The choice is made!

Peter Venkman: Whoa! Hold on!

Gozer: The Traveller has come!

Peter Venkman: Nobody chose anything! [turns to Egon] Did you choose anything?

Egon Spengler: No.

Peter Venkman: [to Winston] Did you?

Winston Zeddemore: My mind is totally blank.

Peter Venkman: I didn’t choose anything.

[All three slowly turn to look at Ray]

Ray Stantz: I couldn’t help it. It just popped in there.

Peter Venkman: [sternly] What? What “just popped in there?”

Ray Stantz: I- I- I tried to think…

Egon Spengler: Look!

[They all look over one side of the roof]

Ray Stantz: No! It can’t be!

Peter Venkman: What is it?

Ray Stantz: It can’t be!

Peter Venkman: What did you do, Ray?!

Winston Zeddemore: Oh, shit!

[They all see a giant cubic white head topped with a sailor hat]

Ray Stantz: [sighs, resigned] It’s the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.

Protesters Erased From Reality

I.M. Citizen wrote an interesting piece over on Freedom Bunker that caught my eye.

Apparently, H.R. 347, the Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act (or the “no protesters allowed” act) is already making its mark.

On March 21st, President Obama paid a visit to New Mexico. On the way there, the Secret Service learned of a plan by New Mexico TEA Party members to protest his arrival, and promptly changed their destination to avoid the protest.

Sher Zieve writes,

When the US Secret Service discovered that the enterprising group of our Southeast New Mexico Patriots had, also, switched their plans and would drive to Roswell to engage in peaceful and Constitutionally allowed dissent against the Obama policies of the destruction of the United States of America, the SS began to put their respective feet down. First, the SS made a strong request that the anti-Obama rally not occur…at all. When the TEA Party members advised them that they still planned to do so, it was announced that the main road (Earl Cummings Loop) into and out of the Roswell airport would be closed. In other words, only the planned Obama sycophants, adherents and Adoration Groups will be allowed in…all others no longer have any free speech.

Pat Robertson: The War on Drugs Has Failed; Legalize Marijuana!

Image credit: http://futurepocket.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/marijuana_1.jpgPat Robertson probably just shocked a large number of his followers when he made this statement on Wednesday the 7th:

“I really believe we should treat marijuana the way we treat beverage alcohol,” Mr. Robertson said in an interview on Wednesday. “I’ve never used marijuana and I don’t intend to, but it’s just one of those things that I think: this war on drugs just hasn’t succeeded.”

Mr. Robertson’s remarks echoed statements he made last week on “The 700 Club,” the signature program of his Christian Broadcasting Network, and other comments he made in 2010. While those earlier remarks were largely dismissed by his followers, Mr. Robertson has now apparently fully embraced the idea of legalizing marijuana, arguing that it is a way to bring down soaring rates of incarceration and reduce the social and financial costs.
